Summary
The Primary School Principal is responsible for the leadership, administration, and management of the primary school, ensuring the effective delivery of high-quality education in alignment with the school's mission and values. Reporting to the Head of School, the Principal oversees all academic, operational, and disciplinary functions, working closely with staff, students, and parents to maintain a positive and productive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities by Major Administrative Functions
1. Academic Leadership
  • Curriculum Oversight
    Lead the development and implementation of the primary school’s curriculum, ensuring that it meets educational standards and is tailored to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Teacher Supervision and Development
    Provide ongoing support and supervision to teaching staff through classroom observations, performance evaluations, and professional development initiatives to maintain high standards of teaching.
  • Student Achievement and Assessment
    Monitor student performance, using assessments and data to implement intervention strategies and improve academic outcomes.
  • Innovative Learning Practices
    Encourage the integration of innovative teaching methods and educational technologies to enhance learning experiences.
2. School Operations and Resource Management
  • Daily Operations Management
    Oversee the daily functioning of the primary school, ensuring smooth operations across all areas, including facilities management, classroom activities, and student safety.
  • Budget and Resource Allocation
    Work with the Head of School to manage the primary school’s budget, ensuring effective use of financial resources in line with educational priorities.
  • Timetable and Scheduling
    Approve and oversee the development of class timetables, ensuring efficient use of resources and appropriate allocation of teachers to different classes.
  • Staffing and Recruitment
    Lead the recruitment and allocation of primary teaching and support staff, ensuring that the school has a balanced and qualified team to meet the educational needs of students.
3. Student Discipline and Well-being
  • Behavioural Management
    Develop and enforce disciplinary policies to ensure a safe and respectful learning environment. Address significant student behaviour issues, working closely with teachers and parents to implement corrective actions.
  • Student Welfare
    Ensure that student well-being is prioritised by collaborating with counsellors and other support staff to address the emotional, psychological, and social needs of students.
4. Parent and Community Engagement
  • Parent Communication and Involvement
    Build and maintain strong relationships with parents, acting as a primary point of contact to address concerns and promote involvement in their children’s education.
  • Parent Meetings and School Events
    Organise regular parent-teacher meetings and school events to keep the parent community informed and engaged in school activities.
5. Strategic Planning and Development
  • School Vision and Mission Alignment
    Ensure that all activities and programs within the primary school align with the broader vision and mission of the school, as directed by the Head of School.
  • School Improvement Plan
    Develop, implement, and monitor the Primary School Improvement Plan (SIP), focusing on academic performance, operational efficiency, and student well-being.
  • Policy Compliance
    Ensure that all school policies are followed and in compliance with national education standards and school board directives.
6. Administrative Leadership and Reporting
    • Management of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
      Lead and guide the Primary School’s Senior Leadership Team, delegating responsibilities effectively to ensure that key areas are managed efficiently.
    • Reporting to the Head of School
      Provide regular reports to the Head of School on the academic, operational, and status of the primary school, as well as updates on any major developments or challenges.
Qualifications
  • Education: Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field (Doctorate preferred).
  • Experience: A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in teaching and school leadership, with at least 5 years in a international primary school setting.
  • Skills: Strong leadership and communication skills; excellent organisational abilities; deep understanding of curriculum design, educational management, and student well-being.
